Fill it, plug it in, done. Set it level, since short falls out of plumb send water over the outside of a bowl rather than into the next one.
The deep basin handles most splash, but a coaster or mat underneath is still worth using on untreated wood.
Water level and daily care
Keep enough water in the basin to cover the pump so it never runs dry. On a piece this small the reservoir is very small and drops within days, faster with heating on, so check often.

Cleaning

Does it splash?
