Setup and placement
Fill it, plug it in, done. Set it level, because a spouted bowl out of plumb pours past the bowl below rather than into it, which sends water outside the fountain.

Water level and daily care

Drain it before the first hard freeze and store the pump dry indoors. Water left to freeze and thaw is what does the damage, not the cold itself.
