LARGE OUTDOOR WATER FOUNTAIN

Six Feet Seven, and Not a Stack of Bowls

Seventy nine inches. Most fountains at the top of a range are a taller version of the same idea, another bowl added to the stack. This one is a different object. It is a single sheer cliff face, and water plunges down the rock surface from over two meters up rather than stepping politely from tier to tier. There is no repetition in it and no symmetry to read. It behaves like a piece of landscape rather than like garden furniture.

Nine white LEDs are set into the rock basins across the full height, lighting the falling water and the stone texture from several points rather than from one. The light is white rather than warm, so at night the water reads cool and bright against dark stone, closer to moonlight on a rock face than to lamplight in a garden. If you are matching warm string lights or warm porch bulbs, expect this to read cooler than everything around it.

The base is 31.5 by 23.2 inches, which is the footprint a structure this tall requires to stand safely rather than a styling choice. And be honest about the space before you order. At 79 inches in a standard residential backyard this will feel overwhelming rather than impressive. In a setting that can carry it, with depth, open sky, and planting around it for context, nothing else in the range comes close.

What Makes This Fountain Different

  • The pump and the lights run on separate plugs. This is the feature nobody notices in the listing and everybody uses once they own it. You can run the lights with the water off, which gives you a lit rock face without any sound on a late evening when you want the garden quiet. You can run the water with the lights off in daylight. And when something needs servicing you can isolate one system without shutting down the other. Almost no fountain at any price does this, and on a piece this size it changes how often you actually switch it on.
  • A cliff face, not a cascade. Stacked and tiered fountains repeat one shape at decreasing sizes, which reads as manufactured no matter how good the texture is. A single vertical rock surface has no repeating unit in it, so the eye reads it as a formation rather than as an assembly. That is the whole reason to choose this shape.
  • Nine light points across 79 inches. A single light at the base of a piece this tall leaves the upper two thirds dark. Distributing nine across the full height means the water is lit the entire way down, which is the only way a fountain this tall works after dark.
  • Resin, which is why it can exist at this height. A 79 inch stone fountain would need machinery to place and a prepared foundation. Resin keeps it to something that can be delivered and positioned normally, and the faux granite texture does the visual work from any sensible viewing distance.
What the water sounds like

Full and continuous. Water falling over two meters onto multiple rock ledges gives a broad sound with real body to it, not a trickle and not a single sharp splash. At this scale it will cover traffic and mask conversation from a neighboring space, which is one of the practical reasons commercial courtyards use fountains this size. The pump is built to run quietly in itself, so what you hear is the water rather than the machine. How loud it seems will still shift with the surrounding walls, the paving, and how open the site is, which is why a fixed decibel number would tell you nothing useful about your own space.

Setup, Care, and Warranty

Space and placement

Allow at least eight to ten feet of clear space on the main viewing sides so the full height reads in proportion. In an enclosed or tight space 79 inches feels overwhelming rather than impressive, and that is a proportion problem no amount of repositioning solves.

The ground must be genuinely level and genuinely solid. A tall structure out of plumb sends water off one edge instead of down the face, and the error is visible across the whole height. A prepared pad or existing paving is the right base rather than soft ground.

Two plugs, two outlets

The pump and the lighting are on separate plugs, which is the point of the design but does mean planning for two outlet positions or an outdoor rated power strip. Decide before installation whether you want to switch them independently or put both on one timer.

Water level and daily care

Keep enough water in the reservoir to cover the pump at all times. A fountain moving water up 79 inches works harder than a small one, and running dry is what kills pumps. Water falling this distance also loses more to evaporation and to wind drift than a low fountain does, so check the level more often than the reservoir size suggests.

Clear leaves from the rock basins. Anything caught on a ledge diverts a section of the fall and you will hear the change before you see it.

Winter storage

Before hard freezes, drain the reservoir and every basin completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and let the piece dry out. Water left standing where it can freeze is what damages fountains through winter. Covering it also stops rain and snow refilling the basins once it is drained.

Questions Before You Choose

What kind of space does a 79 inch fountain actually need?

Allow eight to ten feet of clear viewing distance on the primary sides. Large open gardens, wide courtyards, hotel and commercial landscapes are where it is properly scaled. In a standard residential backyard it dominates rather than anchors, and the surroundings cannot hold it. If your space is closer to a patio than to a courtyard, choose something in the three to four foot range instead.

Is the light warm or cool?

White rather than warm. Against dark stone that gives a cool bright look closer to moonlight on rock than to lamplight. It suits the cliff subject, but if the rest of your outdoor lighting is warm, this will read cooler than everything around it. Worth deciding before you commit, since the light is built into the basins rather than replaceable.

How is it different from the stacked rock fountains?

Stacked designs repeat one bowl shape at decreasing sizes and read as an assembly. This is a single vertical rock face with no repeating unit, so it reads as a formation. It is also far taller, which changes what it does in a space. Stacked pieces sit within a garden. This one defines the garden.

Is it safe around children and pets?

A structure this tall should never be climbed on, and children should be kept from pulling on the upper basins. Set it on a hard level surface with clear space around it, run both cords along a bed edge or wall rather than across open ground, and keep the plugs on protected outdoor outlets. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.
