A Foliage Panel With the Light Behind It
The light is behind the panel, not in front of it. That is the whole design. A leaf pattern cut through sheet metal with a lamp behind it turns into a lit screen after dark, with the foliage glowing warm and the solid metal between the leaves going black. Light the same panel from the front and you get a flat gray rectangle with some holes in it.
In daylight it works the other way round. The cut leaves show as openings you see the wall or planting through, so the pattern reads as shadow rather than light, and the panel changes completely between noon and nine.
Below the panel, four vertical tubes run water down into a base trough, so there is a set of straight lines under all that foliage. Metal rather than cast stone, so the cut edges stay crisp, and at under ten inches deep it sits flat against a wall or a fence.
