Four Bowls Lit, the Top One Left Dark
Leaving the top bowl unlit is a decision, not an omission. Light every bowl on a column and the eye has nowhere to settle, because the whole height competes with itself. Leave the top one dark and the piece has a top, the lit bowls step away below it, and there is somewhere for the sequence to begin.
The bowls are copper toned with incised banding cut around them, staggered to alternating sides of a gray stone column so the water crosses on every drop. Below them the water lands in a ribbed base vessel rather than an open basin, which keeps the sound contained.
Just under forty inches on a fifteen and three quarter inch square, and thirty two pounds. The lights are rings rather than points, set into the bowls, so what you see after dark is four lit circles stepping down a dark column.
