Water level and daily care
Keep enough water in the basins to cover the pump at all times. A wide curtain exposes more water to the air than a stream, so check the level every few days in warm weather rather than weekly.
Keep the ribbed face clear. Debris caught in the horizontal grooves breaks the curtain into channels and you lose the even sheet the design exists to produce.
Cleaning the ribbed interior
In hard water areas mineral film settles into the fine horizontal grooves, which is the hardest place to remove it once set. Wipe the wet face with a soft cloth regularly rather than waiting for it to show, and keep harsh liquid cleaners and abrasives away from the ribbing.
Winter storage

How narrow is 11 inches in practice?
Less than the depth of a typical bookshelf. It will sit against a wall in a passage, a small patio, or an indoor corner and leave the floor in front of it walkable. For comparison, most floor fountains over three feet tall need eighteen to twenty four inches of depth, which is the difference between a feature and an obstacle in a tight space.
Does it need a wall behind it?
It is designed to sit against one and looks best that way, since the outer frame reads as a panel rather than as a free standing object. At 37.5 pounds it is stable enough not to require the wall for support, unlike lighter tall pieces, but the back is not a finished viewing side.
Is it quiet enough for indoors?
With the pump turned down, yes. At full flow the wide curtain produces more sound than the slim body suggests, which is excellent outdoors and can be a lot in a small room. The adjustable pump is what makes indoor placement workable, so use it.
Is it safe around children and pets?

The one rule worth remembering
The pump has to stay under water. Everything else on this page is preference, but a pump that runs dry is a pump you replace. In warm weather a basin can drop below the line in a few days, so top it up before it gets close rather than after.

Drain it before the first hard freeze and store the pump dry indoors. Water left to freeze and thaw is what does the damage, not the cold itself.
