Six Bowls, Alternating Sides All the Way Down
Stack six bowls down the center of a column and the water falls in a straight line. Set them alternately to the left and right and the water has to cross the column six times, which turns a drop into a route. From the front you follow a zigzag. From the side you read how far each bowl projects.
The bowls are a copper brown glaze against a gray stone column, which is two temperatures doing different jobs. The warm bowls carry the movement and the detail. The cool column carries the height and stays out of the way. At fifty three and a half inches that contrast is what makes the piece read from across a yard rather than as one gray shape.
