Set it on a level, solid surface, fill the basin, and plug it in. One person, a few minutes, no plumbing. Check that it sits flat before switching it on, because a tilted ledge will send water off one side instead of over the lip.
Run the cord along a wall or bed edge rather than across the path. Take a minute to look at the spot after dark before you settle on it, since the lit version and the daylight version are two different objects.
Daily care and winter storage
Keep enough water in the basin to cover the pump so it never runs dry, and check more often in heat and wind. Clear leaves off the ledges, since a leaf sitting on a lip will divert the whole flow to one side and you will notice the sound change before you notice the leaf.

Will it work as the centerpiece of a yard?
No. At 25.6 inches and in a dark tone, it is built for close range at the edge of a space. Out in the open on a lawn it will read as a rock rather than as a fountain. For a piece that has to hold the middle of a yard and carry sound across it, choose a taller tiered fountain with a full pale silhouette.
How is it different from a water wall fountain?
Sound and shape. A water wall runs sheets of water down flat faces and produces a broad wash that covers other noise. This one drops water across short ledges and gives you a smaller, more varied trickle with a natural silhouette. Choose this for character and close range. Choose a water wall if the goal is to drown something out.
Is it safe around children and pets?
Keep it off the main running path and out of reach of a dog turning a corner, since 14.3 pounds moves more easily than stone.
