Water Comes Out of the Crack, Not the Top
A tall turquoise jar with a sculpted break running down the front face, and the water emerges from inside that fissure rather than spilling over the rim. The glaze runs blue green with fine horizontal banding around the body, and the torn edges of the crack catch a pale metallic light. It reads as a vessel that failed and kept working.
The crack is not a texture pressed into the surface. It is an opening with depth behind it, and an LED sits inside. In daylight what you see is a jar with a flaw in it. After dark the light comes out through the fissure and the flaw becomes the brightest thing on the piece, which is a genuine transformation rather than a lit ornament. Look at it after dark before you commit. The lit crack is the reason to own this piece and the effect depends entirely on what is behind and around it. A plain pale wall gives you the strongest version.
Water level and daily care
Keep enough water in the reservoir to cover the pump at all times. Water running down a surface rather than falling loses less to drift, but a tall narrow body still evaporates, so check every few days in warm weather.
Keep the fissure clear. Debris caught in the opening interrupts the seep and turns an even sheet into a dribble down one side.
Caring for the glaze
Use a soft cloth and keep harsh liquid cleaners off the surface. In hard water areas a pale film builds where the water runs, and on a strong turquoise it shows clearly against the colour. Clean it before it sets rather than after. Years of unbroken direct sun will soften any applied colour, so afternoon shade keeps it looking new longer.
Winter and freezing weather

Questions Before You Choose
What background does it need?
Plain and pale. A white or neutral wall, light render, or a quiet interior. Turquoise is a strong colour and it needs room to be the strongest thing in view. Against busy planting, brick, or a coloured wall it competes rather than stands out, and the lit crack loses its effect too.
How is it different from the teal cutout urn?
Same idea, opposite execution. The teal urn has a clean precise vertical opening, so it reads as a designed cut. This one has a rough irregular break, so it reads as damage that turned into a feature. Choose the urn if you want precision and this if you want the accident.
Does it work indoors?
Yes, and it is one of the better indoor candidates here. The sound is soft enough for a room, the height suits a floor position, and the colour reads strongly against a plain interior wall. You need an outlet within reach and a floor that tolerates the occasional splash.
Is it safe around children and pets?
Concrete weight makes it stable, but a tall narrow vessel should not be pushed or leaned on. Set it on a level solid surface, keep it out of the main running route, and run the cord where it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.

Water is used year round
Birds drink and bathe in every season, including the weeks when puddles and shallow ponds are frozen over.
Two inches, no more
Songbirds bathe standing up. A basin deeper than roughly two inches at the centre gets looked at and left alone.

Moving
Add a solar fountain kit and the surface breaks. Moving water carries further than a still basin and keeps mosquitoes from settling. It sits in the basin, so there is no drilling and no wiring.
Three habits, and it outlives the garden bed.
A bird bath does not need much. Almost every one that fails does so for one of two reasons. Either water was left in it through a freeze, or a detergent stripped the surface. Avoid both and the rest is rinsing.
Rinse and refill every few days in warm weather. A tip and a hose is enough.
Scrub with a stiff brush and diluted white vinegar when algae shows. No detergent and no bleach, since both leave residue birds will drink.
Empty it before the first hard frost, or keep it moving with a de-icer. Water left to freeze is the one thing the warranty can't undo.
