TURQUOISE OUTDOOR JAR FOUNTAIN

Water Comes Out of the Crack, Not the Top

A tall turquoise jar with a sculpted break running down the front face, and the water emerges from inside that fissure rather than spilling over the rim. The glaze runs blue green with fine horizontal banding around the body, and the torn edges of the crack catch a pale metallic light. It reads as a vessel that failed and kept working.

The crack is not a texture pressed into the surface. It is an opening with depth behind it, and an LED sits inside. In daylight what you see is a jar with a flaw in it. After dark the light comes out through the fissure and the flaw becomes the brightest thing on the piece, which is a genuine transformation rather than a lit ornament. It is worth walking out to look at it once the sun has gone before you settle on a final position.

At 38.7 inches this holds a corner on its own. The turquoise is strong enough that the background matters. Against a white wall, pale render, or a neutral interior it reads as a deliberate colour statement. Against busy planting or a coloured wall it fights for attention and loses.

What Makes This Fountain Different

  • The flaw is the feature, and the light is inside it. Most jar fountains send water over the lip, which is the expected behaviour of a vessel and reads as decoration. Here the water comes out of a break in the side, so the object tells a small story before you have thought about it. Putting the LED inside that break rather than under the jar is what makes it work at night, because the crack shifts from being a dark line in daylight to being the light source after dark. The piece is genuinely two different objects at noon and at ten in the evening.
  • An irregular break, not a cut opening. The edges are torn and uneven rather than machined, which is the difference between something that looks broken and something that looks designed to look broken. Compare it with the clean vertical slot on the teal cutout urn, which is the same family of idea executed with precision instead of accident.
  • Concrete, which holds a glaze differently. The turquoise sits on a cement body rather than resin, so the surface has weight and the colour has depth in the recesses. It also means real mass, and the winter care that comes with it.
  • Rated for indoor use, and it shows. At just under 39 inches this works as a floor piece in a room. The turquoise and the lit crack read strongly against a plain interior wall, which is where the product photography puts it for good reason.
What the water sounds like

Quiet. Water seeps from the fissure and runs down the jar body in contact with the surface, so it never falls freely and never lands hard. This is among the softest sounds in the range, which is why it works indoors and beside seating. It will not cover traffic and is not meant to. How loud it seems will still shift with the water level and whether hard surfaces surround it, which is why a fixed decibel number would tell you nothing useful about your own space.

Setup, Care, and Warranty

Setup and placement

Fill it, plug it in, done. No plumbing and nothing to assemble. Concrete at this height has real mass, so plan the position before you fill it.

Look at it after dark before you commit. The lit crack is the reason to own this piece and the effect depends entirely on what is behind and around it. A plain pale wall gives you the strongest version.

Water level and daily care

Keep enough water in the reservoir to cover the pump at all times. Water running down a surface rather than falling loses less to drift, but a tall narrow body still evaporates, so check every few days in warm weather.

Keep the fissure clear. Debris caught in the opening interrupts the seep and turns an even sheet into a dribble down one side.

Caring for the glaze

Use a soft cloth and keep harsh liquid cleaners off the surface. In hard water areas a pale film builds where the water runs, and on a strong turquoise it shows clearly against the colour. Clean it before it sets rather than after. Years of unbroken direct sun will soften any applied colour, so afternoon shade keeps it looking new longer.

Winter and freezing weather

Dry concrete handles cold, and water freezing inside it is what causes cracking. Before hard freezes, drain the reservoir completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and let the piece dry. Given it is rated for indoor use, bringing it inside for winter is a straightforward option if you have the floor space.

Questions Before You Choose

What background does it need?

Plain and pale. A white or neutral wall, light render, or a quiet interior. Turquoise is a strong colour and it needs room to be the strongest thing in view. Against busy planting, brick, or a coloured wall it competes rather than stands out, and the lit crack loses its effect too.

How is it different from the teal cutout urn?

Same idea, opposite execution. The teal urn has a clean precise vertical opening, so it reads as a designed cut. This one has a rough irregular break, so it reads as damage that turned into a feature. Choose the urn if you want precision and this if you want the accident.

Does it work indoors?

Yes, and it is one of the better indoor candidates here. The sound is soft enough for a room, the height suits a floor position, and the colour reads strongly against a plain interior wall. You need an outlet within reach and a floor that tolerates the occasional splash.

Is it safe around children and pets?

Concrete weight makes it stable, but a tall narrow vessel should not be pushed or leaned on. Set it on a level solid surface, keep it out of the main running route, and run the cord where it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.
