Fill it, plug it in, done. No plumbing and nothing to bury. At 25.5 inches one person can carry and position it easily.

Water level and daily care
Keep enough water in the base to cover the pump so it never runs dry. A small piece holds a small reservoir, so the level drops faster than on a large fountain and needs checking every few days in warm weather.

Looking after the finish

Scale and story. That one is 32.6 inches with three intact barrels on a brick base and reads as a working water station. This one is 25.5 inches with a cracked barrel and reads as something old that still works. Choose that for the fuller composition and this for the narrative detail and the smaller footprint.
Will the crack leak?
It is meant to. Water emerging from the split is how the fountain is designed to run, and the flow is contained within the piece and recirculated from the base below. Nothing escapes the fountain.
Where does it look right?
Farmhouse and rustic gardens, a doorway, a path edge, a small patio, beside a bench. It suits gravel, brick, and loose planting, and it works indoors in a room already leaning country. It does not suit a formal or minimal setting.
Is it safe around children and pets?
At this size it is easy to knock, so set it on a level solid surface out of the main running route. The pump handle is a fixed part rather than a working lever and should not be pulled on. Run the cord where it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.

The one rule worth remembering
The pump has to stay under water. Everything else on this page is preference, but a pump that runs dry is a pump you replace. In warm weather a basin can drop below the line in a few days, so top it up before it gets close rather than after.

Top it up whenever the level drops. The pump has to stay covered. This is the habit that matters more than the other two put together.
Rinse the pump every few months, and wipe mineral film off the surfaces the water runs over before it sets. A brush and a minute is the whole job.
Drain it before the first hard freeze and store the pump dry indoors. Water left to freeze and thaw is what does the damage, not the cold itself.
