The Cascade Happens Inside the Ring
A ring on its own is a shape. What makes this one a fountain is that the cascade is built inside the opening, three small tiers curving down within the circle, so the water is framed by the ring rather than running over it. From the front you look through the ring at moving water. From the side the piece almost disappears, because it is only nine inches deep.
The light is mounted in the base and shines upward, which is unusual and deliberate. Lighting a ring from the front flattens it into a flat disc. Lighting it from below picks out the inside curve and the water inside it, and leaves the outer face in shadow, so the circle keeps its depth after dark.
The texture is applied by hand rather than cast uniform, so the gray stone surface varies across the ring instead of repeating. Twenty pounds, tool free, and the flow is adjustable across a half gallon to two gallon range.
